New to my gardens this season, grown from seeds from the Ottawa Wildflower Seed Library.
Like many native annuals, this species also has the capacity to grow as a biennial, with a leaf rosette forming the first season and the flowers in year two. Plants seeded in the early spring, or started indoors, are more likely to grow, bloom and set seed in a single season. Plants started later in the year, or growing in less ideal conditions are more likely to grow as biennials.
They grow to between 3' and 6' tall and prefer dappled shade settings with rich soil and consistent moisture. I'd suggest trying them alongside plants like Jewelweed and Scarlet Beebalm.
